We made it! Day 31 of 31 days to disappear. I’m better for it. I embrace my hiding, and need to die daily. I get that from Scripture. None of us may have gotten anything from Scripture without the Reformer, Martin Luther, who paved the way 500 years ago. Praise God for Martin Luther. Happy Reformation Day!
Last week, I asked my wiser, older friend Liz, “Do you remember what you said that day awhile ago when I needed some encouragement?”
She replied: “Die to self?”
Well, no. That wasn’t what I was thinking of.Ha! But I told her that was a good one, and she was welcome to repeat it every time she stepped over my threshold.
Is that encouraging? I think so. The less of me gives more room for God. Someone wrote a book called: Making Room. I wonder if that’s what the author meant. I want to make room for God in me, then others get more of Him.
Let’s hear it for older wiser friends who keep me going in the right direction.
Then Jesus told his disciples, “If anyone would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross and follow me. For whoever would save his life will lose it, but whoever loses his life for my sake will find it. For what will it profit a man if he gains the whole world and forfeits his soul? Or what shall a man give in return for his soul? Matthew 16:24-26 ESV
I love what Evans wrote in Daily with the King:
“The cross is continual. I cannot die to self once and for all. I must die daily as Paul did (I Corinthians 15:31.) As long as I live, and as long as my flesh craves preeminence, I will be confronted by the continual alternative: my will or Christ’s.”
This dying thing is continual. Best done daily, as Liz said (as Paul said.)
The more I disappear in Him, the more I live my real life. I don’t get it, but I want to get it. I may not get it all until that day when we share in all His glory. In the meantime, I’m hiding out, making room, embracing my death, living my real life. Can’t think of a better place to be.
For you died to this life, and your real life is hidden with Christ in God. And when Christ, who is your life, is revealed to the whole world, you will share in all his glory. Colossians 3:3
Have a blessed rest of the day of Reformation!
