Stirring the rah-rah-you-are-enough-pot today.* Not sure everyone will agree.
A theme on the blog-waves I’ve heard (too many times) is: “You Are Enough.”
We sling this battle-cry of the Christian woman stuck in the bad places of her head, her job, her ministry. Just say (and embrace): “You are enough” and all will be well and right.
Where in the Sam-hill (where is Sam and his hill, btw?)–where in the world did that come from?
From the pit. That’s all.
Yes. We want to encourage our sister to go out and conquer. To be the light she’s meant to be. To leap with faith and obey God’s call.
Yes. We do need to be balcony people for one another. “Yay, go Sue. You rock. You can do it. You’ve got this. You are Enough.”
But not with the flag waving: “You Are Enough.”
Gag me. I’m sorry.
Yes. Go and obey God. Yes, we are more than conquerors. Scripture, after all.
But don’t say You Are Enough. Don’t tell me I Am Enough. It’s the opposite, really. You and I and Sister Jean are not enough.
If we were, we wouldn’t need Jesus.
Maybe we hold the Good News more like So-So News (or Ho-Hum News) because we forget.
We weren’t enough. We aren’t enough. So, the cross.
But God put his love on the line for us by offering his Son in sacrificial death
while we were of no use whatever to Him.
Romans 5:8 MSG
May we start our morning prayers:
O God Who is my hope and stay, Grant me strength throughout this day,
You alone are my I AM, You alone will bring me Home.
It’s Good News, people. We aren’t enough. The Gospel is called Good News for a reason.
A good enough reason.
“And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works…” Hebrews 10:24*
Read a good word on being enough by my friend, Michele. A smart and humble cookie.
