Children understand more than we give them credit for. You tell them God’s truth: “Jesus died for your sins” or “You need to forgive–more than once” and they get it. Adulting can get in the way of our understanding–or maybe we get better at ignoring what we know to be true, but that’s another blog.
My friend, Susan Chamberlain Shipe just launched her latest book: 52 Commands for Children–A One Year Devotional with Coloring Pages. And I’m giving one away! Just leave a comment below.
I know it’s “for children” but I’m wishing I had a grandchild right now to go through this with (no pressure, girls…) because I expect parents will learn as much as their kids. PLUS, I’d welcome an excuse to sit next to a youngin’ and color along with her or him. Yep–coloring is involved and I love it!
Each command includes a character quality and an illustration. The author recommends you read (and color) one each Sunday night so you can refer to the characteristic throughout the week. After a year, I think I might need to do it again. And coloring is always good for the soul.
Shipe packs a lot of truth and some soul-searching questions that you answer along with your child–a whole year’s worth for only $12.99. That includes downloadable coloring pages. See here for that link. You could make several copies and run a little neighborhood children’s Bible Study just in case that’s where you may be headed.
Oh! I also love it that it’s oversized. It’s a big book with big truths that we all need. A great shower gift, Christmas gift, or what-should- we-do-this-summer-to-keep-our-minds-set-on-things-above gift!
Susan will send one of my readers a free copy – just leave a comment below — about a favorite part about God’s Father-heart, or the name of a child who may love this book. That child can be you, btw.
Thank you, Susan! You may recall that Susan pulled up a chair to our table last month when she wrote about asking some surprising questions around her holiday table! Read more of her ministry at Hope, Heart, Home.
Okay – don’t forget to comment to be entered. Drawing will close next Thursday, June 29. Time to buy some new colored pencils.
