Trishie’s Best-Ever Apple Crisp
(as tried multiple times, year round, in various countries–see “Single Servings” blog post, April 26)
In a 7 1/2 x 11 glass casserole, mix together the following:
(Trish says: “Mix in the baking pan and save washing a dish.” I wholeheartedly agree.)
5 large apples, peeled and sliced (love my apple peeler slicer!)
1 t. cinnamon
1/4 t. nutmeg
1 t. to 1 T. lemon juice, depending on the tartness of the apples – she squeezes half a lemon
1 cup water
In a medium bowl combine:
1 cup sugar
3/4 cup flour
Cut in until crumbly:
1/2 cup firm butter
Spread topping over the apples. Bake at 350 degrees for an hour. Serve warm with vanilla ice cream. Comfort food, simple and delicious. A welcome home is a fragrant home.
At the last women’s retreat, the leader asked me for my favorite smell. I said, “Turkey roasting or ribs bbq-ing.” Later I found out they meant more like a floral air freshener – I got Gardenia – love it! I could’ve added: “Fresh Apple Crisp baking in the oven.” Sigh.
