Crock-pot Oatmeal

I had wonderful oatmeal at a MOPS recently - served in a crock-pot just to stay warm. When I asked the gal had she made it in one, she said the only recipe she could find for crock-pot oatmeal was for steel-oats, so she just made the oatmeal separately.

I just came across two crock-pot oatmeal recipes in church cookbook from Kansas, and tried out this one yesterday. My crock-pot runs hot, so I lowered the heat to Warm around 11 pm and it was cooked just fine by 7 am. Re-warmed it for two girlfriends at 10 and served it w/ half-and-half. They raved. It's nice because all the "toppings" are mixed in already. I'll list the second one as well, but haven't tried it yet. Perfect for a rainy weekend. And, I do have steel-oats so I'll need to get her recipe she didn't use.

Deluxe Crock-Pot Oatmeal

2 cups milk, 1/4 brown sugar, 1 T. melted butter, 1/4 t. salt, 1/2 t. cinnamon, 1 cup quick cooking oats, 1 cup finely chopped apple, 1/2 c. raisens or craisens or dates, 1/2 c. nuts

Grease inside of crock-pot. Combine ingredients and mix well. cover and turn on low (or warm.) Cook overnight or 8-9 hours. Stir before serving.   Serves 4-6.

Dawn's Crock-Pot Oatmeal

5 cups water, 3 cups quick oats, 1/2 t. salt, 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1 t. cinnamon, 1 can apple pie filling (yum, that sounds good!)

Spray pot w/ Pam. Add all ingredients and stir.  Cover and set on low. Start around 9 or 10 pm and it will be ready for breakfast.
