Paul's prayer via Phillips

Janet prays Colossians 1: 9-11 for all the women at her church and any woman she might have ministered to for the past 16 years when God spoke to her about her future in Women's Ministry. You can't go wrong praying Scripture, you can't go wrong praying Paul's prayers - he's a little longwinded, but I can relate to that - and he definitely covers all the important parts.

I started praying this one over our girls and a neighbor the other day - encouraged by Janet's statement - and found the Phillips translation especially wonderful. Cut and paste this one and put it where you can see it and pray it.

"...so you will understand that since we heard about you, we have never missed you in our prayers. We are asking God that you may see things, as it were, from His point of view by being given spiritual insight and understanding.  We also pray that your outward lives, which men see, may bring credit to your Master's name, and that you may bring joy to His heart by bearing genuine Christian fruit, and that your knowledge of God may grow yet deeper.

"As you live this new life, we pray that you will be strengthened from God's boundless resouresc, so that you will find yourselves able to passthrough an experience and endure it with joy. You will even be able to thank God in the midst of pain and distress because you are privileged to share the lot of those who are lviing in the light."

I just started re-reading Colossians for special reading and studying. AND in Phillips version. I love that version. It was actually the first Bible I received when I became a Christian, sent to me from the Outreach Ministry (back in 1970). They ran out the contemporary one they used to send out. I'm glad. Wish there had been an Old Testament, too, in Phillips.
