Have you ever wanted to invite more and stress less? Isn't hospitality just too much work, trouble, mess and effort?

COME TO THE TABLE provides God-motivated reasons for hospitality-His-way, including: tips for the truly tired, what to cook, what to keep in the pantry, and 4 simple ways to get started. Understand the differences between hospitality and entertaining, why we don't do it (when we don't) and how God is the Ultimate Host.

God welcomed us, so when we invite someone, it's one more way we look like Him. And, it may be the only table where a friend understands that God has welcomed her as well.

Why invite? Because people need you, and your table.

You may be thinking, Are you kidding? Have you seen my table? I haven’t even seen it–– too many papers and crumbs and books and bills. Besides, I’m no cook, I’m no Martha Stewart; and I’m not my mother––

Are you finished? A lonely person doesn’t care about crumbs. She needs Jesus. She needs a friend. She needs something to do on a Saturday evening or a Monday morning. She doesn’t need gourmet, she needs a glass of water given in Jesus’ name. Will you pour it? Others will come, but you do need to open your door.

Why invite? Because your faith will grow.

Any act of obedience involves risk. But once you take the risk, your faith deepens. Does God want you to invite the world? Probably not; your living room isn’t that big. But He does want you to invite. Who in your world has not seen your kitchen sink? It’s time. Trust Him for the courage to be His welcome to the people He puts in your path.

The more you invite, the more you understand how much God wants you next to Him at His table.

Maybe you need to start there. God invited you––do you believe that? Then it’s time to pick up the phone and say, “Can you come by? I’ll make coffee.”

Lori’s Orange Scones

Try this simple treat for morning coffee or a bracing cup of afternoon tea. Invite a neighbor in so that you aren’t tempted to eat the whole batch. . .

1 ¾ cups flour, 3 T. sugar, 2 ½ t. baking powder, 2 t. grated orange peel. Combine and cut in 1/3 cup butter until the mixture resembles fine crumbs. Stir in ½ cup raisins or dried cranberries (optional), 1 egg slightly beaten, and 4-6 T. half and half.

Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Knead lightly, 10 times. Roll into a 9” circle and cut into 12 wedges. Place on a cookie sheet. Brush with a beaten egg. Bake 10-12 minutes at 400 degrees. (It’s worth keeping an orange on hand just for these!)
